Crowd Favourite Jankovic to Return to Aegon Classic Birmingham

Former World No.1 Jelena Jankovic has added her name to his year’s stellar line-up at the Aegon Classic Birmingham women’s tennis event.

The tournament, which runs from 15th - 21st June at the Edgbaston Priory Club, will boast the strongest line-up in its history. Defending champion Ana Ivanovic, two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka, World No.3 Simone Halep, Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard and now Jankovic are all set to compete.

There are only limited tickets available for the Aegon Classic Birmingham tournament, one of the most important warm-up events for top players ahead of Wimbledon, which starts at the end of this month.

Aegon Classic Birmingham Tournament Director Patrick Hughesman said:

Jelena is former champion and will be a great asset to this year’s already amazing tournament player field. She is a big crowd favourite and always seems to play well on the Priory Club courts. We are delighted to welcome her back to Birmingham. This year’s line-up is incredibly strong and we’re looking forward to a fantastic week of tennis.

Jankovic won the Aegon Classic Birmingham title in 2007 and went on to win the Wimbledon mixed doubles title with Great Britain’s Jamie Murray later that summer.

Speaking on the announcement David Macmillan, Chief Marketing Officer at Aegon said:

It is yet another great endorsement of the Aegon Classic Birmingham that another world-class player has joined the ranks of the already impressive player field at this year’s tournament. Fans are going to be treated to some fantastic entertainment at the Edgbaston Priory Club and we look forward to a thrilling week of tennis.

The Aegon Classic Birmingham has a rich history and counts Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova and Maria Sharapova amongst its former champions. The event is now second only to Wimbledon in ranking points and prize-money.

There are still limited tickets for the Aegon Classic Birmingham. For more information and to purchase tickets please visit www.lta.org.uk/major-events/aegon-classic-birmingham
