Award-winning Laura Mvula joins B-Side project
MOBO award-winning singer Laura Mvula is the latest famous name to join the judging panel of B-side, a major national music campaign by Visit Birmingham to create an ultimate top 20 ‘virtual album’ of tracks by West Midlands artists.
On July 9th, Laura will join a panel of fellow musicians, writers, promoters and presenters at an exclusive event at the Grade I listed concert hall, Town Hall Birmingham, to help create the playlist of past, present and future songs from the region’s diverse music scene.
The judging panel will take to the famous stage at Town Hall Birmingham, which has hosted the likes of The Beatles, Black Sabbath and Buddy Holly in its 180-year history.
Visit Birmingham has assembled a panel, which also includes Horace Panter (The Specials); Phil Etheridge (The Twang); Vix Vox (ViX and her MsChiefs and ex Fuzzbox); music journalists Pete Paphides and Matt Everitt.
As well as considering hundreds of suggestions from the public, the panel are also championing a personal favourite track using Twitter, where everyone can join in the debate by following @Visit_Bham and using the hashtag #BsideBrum.
Other famous faces to nominate songs include UB40’s Brian Travers, presenter and journalist Stuart Maconie and Pauline Black from The Selecter.
Public nominations are open until midday on June 30th at visitbirmingham.com/bside; one entrant, chosen at random, will win a pair of tickets to the Mostly Jazz, Funk & Soul festival in Birmingham on July 11th. To make your vote, click here.
B-side is an initiative by Visit Birmingham, the city’s official leisure tourism programme for Birmingham.
